1 August 2007 - 21:40He actually dresses like that? – Clark and Michael

Clark Duke and Michael Cera recently finished up their 10-episode web series, aptly title “Clark and Michael”. Fans of sort of absurd, yet sort of deadpan comedy take note. Keep an eye out for cameos from Andy Richter, Tim & Eric, Patton Oswalt and others. David Cross appears as a driving instructor in one episode, and if THAT doesn’t sell you on it, then maybe Clark and Michael isn’t for you. The episodes are fairly short and immensely entertaining, so I encourage everyone to watch all of the episodes several times.

update: they added advertising! great!

20 May 2007 - 20:29Forum Youtube Linker makes youtube links more useful

I wrote a little script that generates bbcode for linking to Youtube videos. It was inspired by the way GTalk and Orkut take Youtube URLs and show a screenshot and description etc.

It spits out forum bbcode that’ll look like this:

Yoji Biomehanika clip @ Sensation Black 2004

Youtube thumbnailYoutube thumbnailYoutube thumbnail
Yoji drops a sick track @ sensation black 2004Dark By Design – Blackout (yoji biomehanika mix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfIPt5Ai5P0

It was basically a way for me to teach myself regular expressions in php. A few of my friends have already found it useful, so give it a shot if you post on any bbcode-enabled forums.

You can also set up a bookmarklet and point it to javascript:(window.location = ‘http://portfolio.itas.ca/~mackenzied/uchoob.php?url=’+location.href);
or drag this into your bookmarks/toolbar: Link to this Youtube video

25 January 2007 - 12:06The future of Google Video (and Youtube)

The official Google Blog posted a bit on the future of Google Video this morning, and it looks like they’re looking at becoming sort of a a video equivalent of the image search (which is what I thought it was when I first heard about it, but that was before places like Youtube and Dailymotion existed).

Starting today, YouTube video results will appear in the Google Video search index: when you click on YouTube thumbnails, you will be taken to YouTube.com to experience the videos. Over time, Google Video will become even more comprehensive as it evolves into a service where you can search for the world’s online video content, irrespective of where it may be hosted.

Does this mean goodbye to gVideo’s cool player? You could seek to the last five minutes of a 2 hour video on that bad boy.

PS the google.ca image search seems to have just introduced those mouseover tricks they’ve had for a while at google.com. It took us months to get tabs on our start pages here in Canada, oi.

26 December 2006 - 20:43The Something Awful YouTube Wish List

SA’s Front Page update for today had me laughing very hard. It’s a list of goon-submitted “Youtube Wishlists”, ideas for videos they’d like to see on Youtube. Most of them don’t seem so unlikely, which makes it even funnier. The article also contains a link to the best ghost riding video I’ve ever seen, and probably ever will see.

22 December 2006 - 1:08Grindhouse HD Trailer

Yahoo has an (as of yet) exclusive HD trailer for the Tarantino/Rodriguez joint venture Grindhouse. It’s an ACTUAL double-feature. The official site calls it “the sleaze-filled saga of an exploitation double feature”, One movie by Rodriguez and one by Tarantino. It seems EXACTLY like a project they’d do.

The Tarantino movie “Death Proof” stars Kurt Russell as a stuntman, and Rodriguez’ stars Rose McGowan and Freddy Rodriguez. They both have appearances by Eli Roth. Why do I get the feeling an evening at the Tarantino house would be a life-changing experience?

Here’s the 720p trailer on megaupload for anyone having trouble with Yahoo: (84.8 MB MOV)

April 6, 2007. Can. not. wait.

19 December 2006 - 4:07Happy holidays! Youtube distractions

I’m busy sleeping off the stress of last semester, and I don’t have any posts prepared. I hope everyone is enjoying their holidays, and that implies that I hope everyone is actually on holidays…

“A pool filled with non-newtonian fluid”

They filled a pool with a mix of cornstarch and water made on a concrete mixer truck. It becomes a non-newtonian fluid. When stress is applied to the liquid it exhibits properties of a solid.

25 October 2006 - 20:03"I My Me Mine" dancing girl on Japanese TV

TV In Japan has a Youtube video of the schoolgirl from Polysics’ “I My Me Mine” PV pop-locking on live TV in Japan. All I gathered from the video is that she’s called “Strong Machine 2gou”.

Here’s her dancing with her father, who I guess is called Strong Machine. ..which is awesome.

TV In Japan looks like a pretty remarkable blog, with a theme like that you’re sure to always have lots of content. Check the videos out while you still can

1 August 2006 - 20:55We are the web

“Keeper of the Gems” Leslie Hall joins forces with that Peter Pan guy, the Tron-suit guy and a host of other mainstream memefolk to sing “We are the web”. The music video explains the issue of net neutrality to the layman and the easily amused. It kind of makes you think about cancelling your ISP subscription all together…

I’ll also mention that I hadn’t, and still haven’t ever heard of Leslie Hall.
